Pakistan, located in South Asia, is a diverse country with stunning landscapes and a rich cultural heritage. With its four distinct seasons, historical significance on ancient trade routes, and emerging reputation as a tourist hotspot, Pakistan offers endless opportunities for exploration. From towering peaks to deep seas, the country has something for every traveler’s dream itinerary. Its unique vibrance, cuisine, and history make it a must-visit destination for those seeking adventure and cultural immersion.

Mountains of Pakistan

The first thing I would love to tell you is the huge mountains in Pakistan. Pakistan is blessed with five out of thirteen highest peaks in the world and some of them are considered the deadliest. K2 aka Mount Godwin Austin is the second highest peak in the world with an altitude of 8611 meters and is the second deadliest peak in the world with a death ratio of around 26.1 percent. This means one in every four climbers died on the mountain. The trek to the K2 basecamp is one of the best treks one can imagine with a sighting of four of the highest peaks in the world from a single location, Concordia. Concordia is also known as the Throne room of the mountain gods. You would see the K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum 1 & 2 from concordia. Nanga Parbat is another dangerous peak in the world and the ninth highest mountain and lies also in Pakistan. There are around 100+ peaks with an altitude above 7000 meters. Compare this with europe, where the highest peak is just a 5000er.

Karakoram Highway

Karakoram Highway is another dream road trip for everyone. The road is one of the highest metal roads in the world and passes through 4700 meters high khunjerab pass into China. The Karakoram Highway or N-35 is built along the old silk road and connects Pakistan with China through northern parts of Pakistan. The road passes through some of the major mountain ranges in the world namely Karakoram, Himalaya & Hindukush mountain ranges. These mountain ranges meet each other on the Karakoram Highway at Junction Point.

Hunza

Hunza is a very famous tourist destination on Karakoram Highway and offers a unique blend of cultures in Pakistan. Hunza is the northern most district in Pakistan. The largest lake in Pakistan, Attabad Lake, is also located in Hunza. Attabad Lake is considered the bluest lake in the world. The local cuisine is a must try and offers an insight into the traditional eatery of the area. There are some forts as old as 1100 years in the area.

Lahore

Lahore was once a capital of Mughal emperors and has a number of UNESCO’S World heritage sites. Badshahi Mosque, Shahi Fort, Masjid Wazir Khan are some of the best attractions to witness. Lahore is also considered the cultural capital of Pakistan. Lahore is famous in Pakistan for its spicy food. You would find some of the best cuisines of Pakistan here.

History & Heritage

Another attraction to visit Pakistan is the history & heritage. Pakistan is home to some of the oldest civilizations on earth. The remains of the Indus civilization were discovered at Harrapa & Mohenjo-Daro in Pakistan. Excavations of Taxila, Malakand & Mardan revealed about the ancient Buddhist presence in Pakistan as well. The greatest Buddhist ruler, Ashoka, ruled from Taxila in Punjab province. He ruled over Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Burma, Bangladesh as well as in some parts of China.
